My
Water Garden has a three leveled waterfall (B) that is about 10 feet
long and 4 feet tall. My pond (C) is graced with 6 Water Lilies and various other water plants. My lilies
vary in colors from Yellow, White, Pink, and Red. I've measured the blossoms on my
yellow sunrise -- it measured 7 1/2 inches across!!
We've added curving walkways made out of Austin Rock (D)
in some areas, and Landscape timbers (E) in others. In the
center of the flowerbed, beside the pond, I created a small walkthrough arch (F). I used some cloths line poles on each side of the rock
walkway, and stretched (2" x 2") hardware cloth across the T's and secured them
with hose clamps. My husband bent some 1/2" rigid pipe in a U shape and supported the
center for me. I planted Confederate Jasmine, Coral Honeysuckle, Pink Honeysuckle, Trumpet
Vine, Morning Glory, and Potato Ivy.
Behind my pond's waterfall is where we park our vehicles. I didn't think
the filters looked
very good as a backdrop to my pond and I liked my first arch so much that I figured
I'd make a larger arch (G). But it had to
be big enough to cover my biological filters.
With a little planning,
and help from my family, we built an arch that was 16' long, 8' wide and
6' tall. We attached it to a trellis on one side, and we attached the
other side to the backside of the waterfall. It has taken three years
(as of spring 98) for the plants to cover the big arch.
I now have a colorful
wall of Coral Honeysuckle, Pink Honeysuckle, Mexican Flame Vine, Moon
Vine, Potato Ivy and various climbing Roses as my water garden backdrop.
