We've taken on a new
project in the yard. We decided to dress up the side of
the house so we added a little patio made out of crushed
granite, bricks and white rock.
As you can see this
side of the house (A) is a little
dreary, and the wooden benches we added had started rotting out
and needed to be replaced before they fell completely apart.
We first marked
where we wanted our little patio with a string and then used
some spray paint to mark the grass.
We used steel edging
to outline things and hopefully to help us keep the grass out of
the patio and make the edging easier. (B)
We covered the area with heavy gauge black plastic and once
again we marked inside the plastic where we were going to put
our rock walkway and our bricks.
We laid out bricks
and flat white rocks in the pattern we wanted to show up and we
filled in the rest of the area with crushed granite. (C)
It will take a little while for all the granite to settle and
for us to see the whole pattern in our design.
We placed some white
paving stones around the Fig tree and some cement benches on
each side. We used 12 inch square patio stones so the
benches would sit evenly and hopefully not sink. (D)
We added a second
layer of paving stones around the fig tree along with a small
water fountain (E) and a canopied
two person swing. I planted two tropical hibiscus in some
square cement planters.
We plan to continue
the sidewalk portion of the patio until it connects from the
sidewalk leading from the front of the house to the large garden
that is beside the pond. (F) We've
added little touches here and there, where the sidewalk runs in
front of the area that we park the vehicles (behind the
waterfall and filter area) there is a state of Texas stepping
stone with a Texas star. |
